Story #3- The Patron Saint of Pigs by Lauren Myracle The dialogue even goes so far as to compare a celebrity with the Waffle House restaurant chain, as her legs are “always open.” Now, no matter your personal opinion about that young celebrity, I just about DNF’d the book right there because I’m not one to be OK with slut-shaming, especially young women whose lives are nobody’s business but their own.Īside from my rant I also felt that the story dragged on for waaaay too long (there’s only so much trudging through a snow storm one can take) and despite John Green’s talent as a writer and writing snappy dialogue, I was really disappointed by this story. But the whole thing was just really distasteful to read, in my personal opinion. I appreciate that there was one female character who was The Voice of Reason and called her guy friends out on how sexist and rude they were being, pointing out that being a cheerleader doesn’t make one a sexual object and they are under no obligation to hook up with or even pay attention to these boys just because they are stranded. Their male fantasies are in overdrive throughout the duration of the story, and the term “Cheerleader Sex” is used more often than not. It starts out with three friends trapped in a snowstorm, two of which are teenage boys lured out into the blizzard by the promise of a restaurant full of stranded cheerleaders. I haven’t heard of anyone else who thinks this, and it’s just my own opinion, but I felt that a lot of the humor and jokes made by the teenage boy characters in this story (which are all but one character) were in poor taste and quite sexist. While his writing style is definitely unique, I actually found this story to be rather offensive. I’ve only read TFIOS by John Green so I was on the fence with his writing to begin with. (“Cheertastic”…the made-up word just grates on me). Right off the bat I will admit I was irritated by the title of this story. Story #2- A Cheertastic Christmas Miracle by John Green Had this been a book by itself it would’ve easily merited a four star rating. I wanted a whole book with Jubilee narrating. Her romance was my favorite of the bunch, set between two strangers, it’s more of the very beginnings of a budding romance but it was believable and quirky, with Stuart’s holiday obsessed mom adding just the right touch of adult presence in a YA story. It poked fun at the insane, consumer-based side of the holidays (The Flobie Five) and Jubilee was a delightful character to provide first person narration- did I mention how funny she is? (And in a sort of dry, unintentional way, which is the best). Johnson’s tale had so many creative moments that set it apart from a typical holiday romance. That sentence alone is what convinced me to purchase the book. You probably think I have heard the call of the pole.” “I realize Jubilee is a bit of a stripper name. Her narrative voice was just so funny and distinct and on more than one occasion I literally burst into laughter (much to the alarm of my four cats), notably so on just the first page of her story: I cannot believe I hadn’t read anything by Maureen Johnson prior to this. Story #1- The Jubilee Express by Maureen Johnson I can assuredly say that my experience with this collection and all three stories in it was consistent with most of the reviews I’d read- it starts off strong and then ends on a less-than-impressive note. I read a lot of reviews about this book prior to reading, as it was my first YA anthology purchase and YA holiday read and I was curious to see what others thought of it. Over the next three days one girl takes a risky shortcut with an adorable stranger, three friends set out to win a race to the Waffle House (and the hash brown spoils), and the fate of a teacup pig falls into the hands of a lovesick barista.Ī trio of today’s bestselling authors – John Green, Maureen Johnson, and Lauren Myracle- brings all the magic of the holidays to life in three hilarious and charming interconnected tales of love, romance, and kisses that will steal your breath away. One brave soul ventures out into the storm from her stranded train and sets off a chain of events that will change quite a few lives. It's bittersweet for me, because More Toem is such a wonderful thing and now I don't know if there'll be any more More Toem. I raced through Basto in an hour or two, although, as ever, there are always a few elements left undone. We visit other worlds in games, but I am thoroughly embedded in Toem, because I'm allowed to take snaps of what I see, and while there are reasons to take some of these pictures, there's also an emphasis on taking pictures for no reason at all. Toem, like Beyond Good & Evil, realises that if you give the player the camera, a camera to put between themselves and the world they explore, the whole thing becomes a bit more real, a bit more engaging. But there's something about the range of objectives, the speed with which you can tick a few off and make progress, the pleasure of rubber-stamping each success, and the sheer doodly joy of the world this all takes place in that elevates everything.Īnd of course there's the camera you carry with you. You wander around taking pictures and solving simple problems. Camper shells provide, at a minimum, cab-height clearance for cargo or more. Bel-Air Camper Shellįirst things first, the standard camper shell/truck topper is light-about 300 pounds-making it ideal for payload-challenged half-ton and mid-size trucks. And while tonneaus (which must be able to open) cannot be fully weatherproofed, camper shells are not only typically mounted with weatherstripping, but can be additionally caulked with silicon caulk or butyl tape as well for added assurance. The opening windows on many models of camper shell provide useful ventilation where enclosed tonneaus instead create dark caves amenable to mold growth. Hard and soft tonneau covers are one solution for cargo security, but lose all protection when one attempts to carry a load taller than the rails of one’s truck bed (which, on many midsize trucks, is often scarcely more than 18 inches). Even the most basic shell features locking handles on the rear access door, which incidentally also prevents the tailgate from opening if one’s tailgate doesn’t itself lock. Unlike a bed-mounted toolbox, a shell doesn’t require the sacrifice several feet of one’s bed-already a problem for short-bed trucks. For those of us in a rainy or theft-prone environment, a shell is an all-but essential upgrade. Camper shells turn the traditionally exposed truck bed into a lockable, weatherproof space for storing cargo or even oneself on camping trips. Why a Camper Shell?Īnyone with an open-bed pickup truck has likely experienced something flying out on the highway, a sensitive load getting soaked in an unexpected rainstorm, the theft of even the most seemingly worthless items, or garbage thrown into the bed. For near the cost of a new hard-shell tonneau, a camper shell provides far more utility and convenience for a number of purposes. From load security and weatherproofing to minimalist weekend jaunts to the woods, nearly every truck can fit some kind of camper shell without modification and using the truck’s existing bed hardware. Whether you seek SUV aesthetics, raw functionality, or a lightweight alternative to a standard slide-in truck camper, a camper shell, also known as a shell, cap, or topper, is a great addition to your truck. Some are smooth and streamlined, others hunchbacked or poorly sized for the trucks they squat atop. Spend enough time ogling trucks and one will see a fair number sporting a shell atop their bed. Drive syncs Docs to your computer as web shortcuts. One cool feature is that unlike Drive, Insync will automatically convert your files into formats (like. Once you initiate a sync, all of the Google Docs crap you've ever opened will get downloaded to your computer. Instead, you're popped into a Google permissions screen online, an indication of how closely Insync is tied with Google. The first time you open the app, you won't even see an application screen. Each account gets its own folder on your computer, but you can't sync any other folders on your computer unless they are inside an Insync folder. So anyway, Insync works really well as a Dropbox substitute, syncing without a hitch to your Google Drive account. If you want to upgrade, Google's prices are much cheaper than the Amazon AWS prices Dropbox charges for storage upgrades. Insync uses the free storage you already have as a part of your Google Docs (now Drive) account, which means that for each Google account you have, you get 5GB of free storage. After the Drive launch today, this isn't the case any longer, but Insync is still just as cheap as Drive. Insync's motto is "8x cheaper than Dropbox," while providing many of the same features and capabilities. Pricing: 25GB for $2.49/month 100GB for $4.99/month 200GB for $9.99/month more options from Google. Drive comes with 5GB of storage free, with generous upgrade options like $2.49/month for 25GB of extra storage and $4.99/month for 100GB of storage. For a full hands-on of Google Drive, click here. You can't yet use Drive with multiple Google accounts, which is a pain, but we'd expect that feature in due time.ĭrive launches on the web, for Mac, Windows, and Android devices today, with iOS support on the way "in the coming weeks." The Android app (which replaces Google Docs) won't stream your content, however, unlike some competitors like Dropbox and SugarSync. Additionally, Drive features a built-in document editor on par with Microsoft's online Office suite that's part of SkyDrive. It'll also tie right in to Google+, Gmail, Android, and other Google services that will let you drop-in or upload files (almost like you might with attachments inside Sparrow for Mac, which can instantly upload attachments to CloudApp). In this way, Drive's real strengths lie on the web and with the features we previously mentioned. Also like Dropbox, you cannot pick other folders on your computer to sync to Drive. In terms of everyday use, Drive offers the same drag-and-drop syncing as Dropbox, and lets you pick which folders inside Drive you want to sync from within the desktop app. Drive also includes an option to turn on OCR text scanning, which means that when you upload images to Drive, Google will scan the images for text and make them searchable (similar to Evernote Premium). To this extent, Drive creates a QuickLook-esque experience inside your web browser that makes it much easier to thumb through files. Dropbox and a few others open files inside a "web gallery," but Drive opens Photoshop files - even if you don't have Photoshop on your computer. First, Drive can open up to 30 kinds of files right inside your browser. While Google Drive isn't much more than a Docs rebranding that syncs to a folder on your computer, it has a few key features that make it worth checking out. At last, Naga expelled Michael back to Earth and used a Dimensional Transporter Card he got from him to go to Vestroia's center, where the Cores were located.Īfter transporting himself to the center, Naga attempted to capture the powers of the Silent Core and Infinity Core, sources of negative and positive energy respectively of Vestroia, by going to them directly and absorbing them to fulfill what he believed to be his destiny. Michael explained to him about the Dimensional Transporter, unaware about his true motives. Michael went to Vestroia by accident, they met each other for the first time. When Drago was able to get across from his Pyrus Space, he could meet them both, but Naga only cared about himself and was angry for being born powerless. Naga and Wavern were born during the Great Revolution (the conflict turned into distortion, created by the only original Bakugan, Dharaknoid and Dragonoid), as they became trapped in the empty space between dimensions. Naga has also a deep hatred for the Battle Brawlers, specially for Dan and Drago (he is the reason for Dan and Drago met each other in the first place). Also, he is the only main villain to be a Bakugan without a brawler, even though Hal-G is technically his brawler (however it can be said in reverse to many cases of evil partnerships/relationships where it is the Bakugan not the brawler who is dominant). He's the most power-hungry Bakugan (to be nearly matched by Dharak/ Razenoid in the third and fourth seasons).
